Please support the passage of a law that would make government shutdowns illegal. Our country cannot shut down. Our government shouldn't be able to shut down either.
Please specifically support clauses ensuring that 1) no furloughs of "nonessential" employees shall be allowed and 2) that no essential federal employees shall be forced to work under the threat of possibly not receiving pay for hours worked.
Federal government employees are the nation's public servants. It is unethical to treat them as if they were indentured servants under any circumstances; and it is unfair to the American people to subject us to the cost, in terms of the loss of time and money, that a shutdown imposes on the whole country by compromising the ability of federal employees to serve without interruption.
