Grace Hopper deserves a special honor for her contribution to this country. She broke barriers for women in the United States with her work on UNIVAC, COBOL, the Harvard Mark I, the first compiler and distributed computing, in addition to her many other achievements throughout a long and distinguished career. She served in the navy from World War II until 1986, a mere six years from the end of her life. Despite playing this vital role in history, her legacy is undersold and often omitted from textbooks and lectures across the country. We owe Grace Hopper better. Please ensure that she takes her proper place in the annals of history by commemorating her birthday as a national holiday.
