Currently the amount of babies being born addicted to prescription pain killers has tripled in the past ten years, meaning 3 out of every 10 babies are born addicted to these medications. This requires extensive treatment, most likely in the ICU, costing millions of dollars a year as many of these cases are covered by Medicaid.
These babies usually have a low birth weight, become easily irritated and frustrated, have difficulty maintaining adequate sleep patterns, and experience severe discomfort.
It is time for the parents to be responsible before the pregnancy instead of after the birth or face the consequences of a felony.
