Make High School/ College Marching Band a Official, State Funded, Sport

Created by C.O. on November 26, 2013

Marching Band is a big past time for students who's schools don't have great sports teams and where music is important for the community. On average high school students have to pay any where between 300-1000 dollars to there band program because the state funded sports programs (i.e. GHSA) do not recognize band as a sport. I am a Sophomore at Northside High School in Warner Robins, Georgia and I'm also in the band here. In the past 2 years I have been in the program I have seen over 200 kids discouraged to join band due to this fee. I will see a few of these kid on the side of the road doing community service for the police. I can only think band could have helped these children of the street and doing better community work. Please help us get funding and kids of the street. Thank You
