Make higher education accessible to a wider range of talent: modify the general education requirement for Algebra.

Created by P.A. on February 12, 2012

Stop this education-termination at the math-wall. This is a petition for "no adult left behind" education. Today, Algebra is required, even to get an Associate's Degree. Those who cannot get past "The Algebra Obstacle" are told by the Department of Education that they are finished with their education. Students must master this specialty math if they want to advance. This is not a request to eliminate Algebra (or any higher math) as prerequisite to many certain degree paths (sciences, engineering, etc.); this is to remove it as a general education requirement for all students. Today, even high schools require Algebra, making it a top reason for drop-out. Talent is multifaceted; intellect is not determined by one's math skills and we cannot continue to block those who cannot traverse it.
