Higher education, like college, makes many students go into debt when they're just starting out in their lives, when all they wanted was an education. The US spends more money on prisons than education, and more money on the military. That is a problem, and the reason we're behind so many countries in science and mathematics. If we spent taxpayer money on allowing citizens the ability to attend university like a public school, then we'd have more educated citizens and equality.
