Many states do not require students to take home economics or civics classes. I propose that both of these courses become a mandatory part of the curriculum.
Students are often unprepared for life after high school. These courses would address such inadequacies by teaching students how to create a budget, file their taxes, purchase a car or house, signing a lease, how insurance works, how to register to vote and what their legal rights are regarding voting, how primaries and/or caucuses function, and how the legislative process functions.
Students would learn how to write a resume, how to interview for a job, and what their rights as an employee are.
Lastly, they would learn basic skills such as cooking that are often not taught at home.
