Today, many American States have banned gay marriage. This is infringement upon basic human rights of being allowed to love, marry, and raise children with one's lover, who may be of the same sex. This law is a direct violation of our first amendment, which "prohibits the making of any law respecting an establishment of religion." The idea of homosexuality or anything related has been derived directly from religion. We, a nation founded upon freedom of religion and speech, are not allowing the basic rights of allowing, say, on man to marry another man or one woman to marry another woman. It is ridiculous that the LGBTQ community is oppressed by an idea specifically banned in our first amendment, one that Americans refer to all the time.
