make Independence Day the first Thursday in July, regardless of the actual date, kind of like Thanksgiving.

Created by I.B. on July 07, 2013

The Declaration of Independence wasn't actually signed on the 4th of July. Moving the traditional 4th of July Independence Day holiday to the first Thursday of the month will create a 4 day weekend for many Americans, allowing them to fully celebrate the birth of our great nation. This new date structure coincides well with many of the traditional means of celebrating the holiday – whereas the current set date leads to some very un-productive fifths of July.

Inevitably retailers will latch onto the 4-day weekend and it may create a boost in consumer spending.
