According to the 1996 Telecommunication Act many major cable and internet service providers were given billions of dollars in tax breaks to allow them to run a better infrastructure that is in place. Companies like Google and many others are running high speed fiber optic cables to provide gigabit internet speeds, and companies like Comcast are complaining that this is destroying competition for them, so they are lobbying against it by giving congressmen money to make laws against it. I think companies like Comcast and all others who accepted these tax breaks must be federally mandated to run fiber optic infrastructure, or give back their tax breaks so another company can do it. They should be able to offer comparable internet speeds and similarly priced to Google Fiber after running fiber
