Research shows 90 percent of a child's brain develops in the first five years of life. Children born into poverty are often neglected. Parents don not read to their child and do not spend time with their child and would much rather sit them in front of a televisions, which has disastrous effects on the raw mind and will lead to issues later in life. Parents need to be informed about the importance of the First Five years of their child's life. First Five California distributes parenting boxes free of charge; however, the information is still not being put in the right hands. Someone needs to present the information directly to the parents and our solution is to have hospitals distribute the box to the parents when the child is born.
