A simple possession for a small amount of narcotics is a felony, which, will bar you from employment in most high end careers. I propose that a second chance be given, and the slate be cleaned after 5 years. 5 years is the time frame that most people are successfully rehabilitated, with minimal chance for relapse. This would help to fix the work force. As it sits right now, ex-addicts are struggling to find meaningful employment, and this only adds to the frustration. More than a few return to a life of crime, as there is simply no other option. A mistake when a person is young should not shape the rest of their lives.
