One of the single greatest untapped resources in America today is its retired people. If we were to make it easier for people to become certified teachers, then those who have retired and have expertise that they wish to share with the education system will be able to become teachers.
As Bill Whittle has asked, “Who would you rather have teaching chemistry to your child: a twenty-two-year-old with a degree in education, or someone with fifty years as a chemical engineer?”
Many retired people would love to teach, passing on the priceless knowledge, experience, and insights that come from a lifetime of hard work. Taking advantage of the expertise of those who are retired but want to be a teacher would be a great step toward improving our education system.
