For decades news networks have been contributing to the collective lack of intelligence of America. This has reached new levels of tragedy in the wake of news outlets now reporting about various petitions submitted to Whitehouse.gov as if they meant anything. When mentioning petitions, any news story should be required to disclaim that the petition and signatures were created without logical restraint by anonymous internet users and the 25,000 signature threshold does not guarantee a review or response by the Administration, nor does it reflect prevailing public opinion. This form of reporting contributes to a lack of critical thinking and common sense that our citizens desperately need to navigate the current financial crisis.
