Make it federal law that vehicles carrying either a pregnant woman, or a child in an approved child safety seat can use parking spaces designated as handicapped parking. It makes sense from a health and economic standpoint to make life easier for pregnant women and their families by allowing them to use the often underused handicapped parking spaces in public parking lots.
Pregnant women are often not as mobile as others, and families with small children need room to load and unload strollers and other equipment. Minimizing the distance these families must travel through parking lots makes us all safer. A woman not visibly pregnant could get an authorization from her doctor, just as handicapped people do.
This would also encourage the use of child safety seats for older kids.
