Many parents around our world are faced with the struggle of balancing work and children with disabilities, for single parents it can be twice as hard. Any parent, single or not who is capable and willing to work, should have the security of their job if they are needed by their child for good cause. Firing employees based on a disabled child's emergency, physical or mental issues, should be considered a form of discrimination. If it is illegal to fire someone based on their handicap, it should be illegal to fire someone based on their child's. Doing so can cause the family to seek government assistance such as welfare, food stamps, government housing. Loss of income can also cause emotional hardship for the parent and the child which can lead to substance abuse issues. To be continued...
