Title 18 of the U.S. code Chapter 33 Section 700 that "Whoever knowingly mutilates, defaces, physically defiles, burns, maintains on the floor or ground, or tramples upon any flag of the United States shall be fined under this title or imprisoned for not more than one year, or both." However a loop hole in the way the law was written makes it a freedom of speech or a peaceful protest. However if we can get this petition passed it will change that. Then anyone on U.S. soil who Desecrates the flag of the United States of America will be held accountable for their actions . This would also make it a federal offense.
