Differences in state and local laws make it difficult to prosecute the use of firearms in the commission of a crime.
We know that:
1. Criminals use firearms they obtain illegally and
2. Criminals will not register firearms if a national gun registry existed.
I have proposed the creation of a national gun registry. That petition is titled:

The combination of a national gun registry and this petition make it possible for federal authorities to prosecute criminals who use firearms not registered to them in the commission of a crime.
This legislation will help make our nation safer from criminals who use firearms not registered to them in criminal acts.
