Legislation should be passed which would make it a crime for any individual or organization to picket within 5,000 feet of any active funeral or memorial service.
Though I believe in the fundamentals of free speech, I feel that picketing a funeral or memorial service should not serve as a legal bases for such freedom, nor should it protect such expression.
These services should always remain peaceful in respect for the deceased and their families; to disturb such peace with protest isn't just immoral, it should be criminal.
These petition is specifically aimed at the Westboro Baptist Church, but is directed overall at any individual or organization which currently protests funerals, or is planning to do so in the relevant future.
