Currently employers throughout the country demand that their employees work more than 40 hours per week. Non compliance usually leads to dismissal, with no legal consequences for the employer. Some people are more than happy to work overtime. But many are not. Given the current laws, an employer can demand so many hours from an employee that the employee has no time to live outside of work. This is abuse. I'm surprised this abuse continues in our day and age. If a law was enacted that protected the rights of employees to work only 40 hours a week if they so choose, many people would not work a minute more than the 40 hours required. A great number of employers would be forced to hire more people to fill the gap, thus driving down unemployment.
