An individual should not be rewarded for something they didn't earn. Case in point is the 9th Circuit Court ruling that wearing military medals that were not earned is considered freedom of speech. Have military awards been reduced to the same category as inappropriate, but protected, tee shirts? I am an Air Force veteran of 24 years. A Vietnam and Cold War Era vet. It is aggravating to talk to someone wearing ribbons that you have earned only to find out the person you've been talking to had never served. You can't wear military rank insignia properly (right side up) on civilian camo. Medals & ribbons should be given the same respect and protection as rank.
