The ESRB, also known as the Entertainment Software Rating Board, is a voluntarily followed video game rating organization. There is no punishment for selling to a minor under the age of the recommended maturity level. I propose that the ESRB or another organization be mandatory to follow by all retailers so that people under the designated age cannot purchase games without parental consent.
To help parents make more educated decisions on what video games to buy their children, there should be a more detailed description on the back cover of video games. In place of "Blood and Gore...Strong Sexual Content", it should specify by saying "Blood-splatter effects occur frequently... contains rare depictions of dismemberment... implied fellatio and masturbation".
