This petition asks the Obama administration to support legislation making it illegal for any US company to file for bankruptcy protection in order to avoid responsibility for the consequences of poorly or negligently maintained equipment. Freedom Industries is an example, since filing for bankruptcy makes it much harder for them to be held entirely accountable for their actions. It is not right that politically well-connected companies and corporations get away with basically whatever they want, and the people end up stuck holding the financial, health issue and environmental consequences bag. A company that fouls water, air or land by way of negligence, greed and irresponsibility must be held accountable to the people their actions harmed.
