It's been over 50 years since the Cuban revolution. The cold war has ended, and Cuba poses no threat to the United States. The island is at peace, and the people are relatively content if not particularly prosperous.
The U.S. government is unjustified in abridging the rights of U.S. citizens to travel to Cuba as part of an effort to perpetuate a misguided and anachronistic embargo policy that accomplishes nothing.
The U.S. might not agree with either Cuba's government, its policies, its economic system or parts of its human rights record. Still, the disputes we have with them are mainly Cold War relics that are perpetuated by special interest groups.
We are Cuba's neighbor, and our people have much in common. It's time to allow our commonalities to outweigh our differences.
