Make it legal to keep chickens in the city of Richmond.

Created by Z.K. on May 13, 2012

Healthy, safe, and abundant food should be a right of every person within the City of Richmond. Modern food production methods raise legitimate concerns regarding food's nutritional quality; the use of harmful or under studied pesticides, antibiotics, and genetic modification; the correct and ethical treatment of animals; the safety of the factory farm food chain; and the environmental impact of standard agricultural practices. Keeping hens allows a person to address these concerns through direct control over all stages of their food production and preparation. In addition to eggs, a small backyard flock of hens produce a quantity of valuable waste that can be turned into beneficial compost, eat potentially harmful bugs, and can be amusing and educational pets.
