Make it mandatory for ALL news channels to provide high quality closed-captioning at all times.

Created by A.K. on September 05, 2012

This petition asks the Obama administration to pass a law that would make it mandatory for all news channels operating in America to provide closed captioning, of a high quality, at all times, including for anchor desk news segments and live interviews. Currently, there is no such requirement, which means very often, Deaf and Hard of Hearing Americans must turn to newspapers and internet sources to get the news that everyone else already heard from the TV. It also means weather warnings may not be received. Please close the gap and provide better TV equality for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Americans.
Furthermore, an increased demand for closed captioning would create a lot of jobs for the stenographers who create the captions.
