Make it mandatory for women to register with the Selective Service System

This petition aims to bring about a situation where men and women are seen as equals in the eyes of the law. In hopes of ending the roadblocks and injustices that women face when trying to honorably serve their country, it is imperative that the American government take this first step toward true, genuine gender equality. Women are kept at a disadvantage due to it not being mandatory for them to register with the Selective Service System as do their male counterparts. This prevents them from gaining access to many of the great opportunities, experiences and benefits the military provides its veterans. So much of what defines civic life for many Americans is their military service, having a military culture dominated by men, and plagued by sexual assault, is something we need to change.
