It seems every time there is a tragedy or national disaster, when there is some related policy issue that also needs national attention, all we can do is fight about whether we should talk about it or not without anyone really listening. With the Batman movie massacre the issue is gun control. With the Japan tsunami and earthquake the issue was nuclear power. With the BP oil spill the issue was offshore drilling. Instead of arguing about arguing, why not make it a national tradition to schedule a national dialog at a set time after the event. We can bump off a week of silly politics and bring the topic up because we *choose* to. The compromise would be that Democrats would have to wait and Republicans would have to talk. The POTUS could make it a date and people would respect that.
