In order to preserve the right to bear arms and to restrict purchase of assault pistols and rifles I offer the following:
Most all community colleges offer a police officer academy training program. If a person wants the extra privilege to carry higher-caliber weapons, they should endure the same rigorous education of our nation's police officers.
Police academy will train prospective assualt weapons owner in firearm safety and ethics, as well as "weed out" the unstable individual who has no business with "assault weapons" or those specialized pistols above 30 caliber.
I feel this extra education is a commitment commeasurate to the responsiblity required to carry.
Hunting rifles/guns and small-caliber handguns with 7-round clips or less will still be available under existing local law
