My Humanities class realized that we have Valentine's Day and other holidays for couples and relationships, but no holidays for single people. My teacher said someone should try and create the holiday by starting a petition here.
I believe that we should have a day devoted to the people who aren't in a relationship, and are happy to not be in one. January 11th would be recognized as a day to have fun and be yourself, without any significant other.
Many companies could use this day for their business. Dating websites can take advantage of this day by creating special offers for signing up that day. Or restaurants can have specials on dinners for one.
Single people should have a day for themselves, just like couples get Valentine's day.
