Make July 9th Gender Identity Day, a holiday to celebrate transgender people and various gender identities.

Created by J.L. on March 08, 2015

Gender identity is an individuals mental gender, and it is an important aspect of a person's life. Despite that importance, many people don't have to think much of their own gender identity as it matches their sex assigned at birth. However, there are millions of Americans whose gender identity does not match their sex assigned at birth. These transgender Americans are often overlooked, and even persecuted. This petition would assign July 9th as a holiday to spread awareness of transgender people, and of gender identity in general, as well as to celebrate gender. Many social minority groups have holidays or months to spread awareness, but not transgender people. This holiday would amend that and expose and celebrate gender identity one day a year.
