The official date the slaves were freed should be celebrated as well as July 4. The end of slavery was a significant date of freedom and pertinent to the state of our country as we know it. We celebrate immigrant holidays and other observances that encompass the melting pot that is our nation. It is only fair, just, and right that we celebrate June 19 as well.
