The number of police killings of unarmed Americans has skyrocketed. Time after time, suspects are shot dead in the streets by police officers, who believed the suspect to have a weapon, which is never found. The current punishment for this sort of crime seems little more than a slap on the wrist. Grand juries are incredibly reluctant to ever bring charges against police officers involved in these shootings. The fact is, manslaughter is manslaughter, no matter who commits the crime. However, police officers are repeatedly exempt from justice. This is unacceptable. We petition the Obama administration to find some way-- bypassing grand juries if necessary-- to make these officers accountable for their crimes.
