Make Legislator's salaries the average income of an American (GDP per capita) as incentive for bettering the economy

Current senators and representatives in the federal government make over $150,000 a year plus benefits. This is more than three times that of an average American who makes only $49,800 a year. This petition will make the salaries of legislators the same as an average American (GDP per capita). Not only will this make legislators more in tune with the plight of an average American but it will provide an incentive for them to strengthen the economy, and raise the average income level. This petition will also save money because of the decrease in pay for congress.
