Carriers and Manufacturers in the United States have been locking the bootloader on technological devices. The issue with this is that a locked bootloader infringes on the right of the consumer who is buying the device. A locked bootloader will not allow the user to use the device to it's full potential. An unlocked bootloader allows the user to choice his or her preferred operating system and allows the user to do what they want to their device. When buying a device a user should own that device and not be limited to what he or she can do to it by the seller of a device. An example of a device with a locked bootloader is the Motorola Razr HD. A user can't choose what happens to this device without fear of the device shutting itself down.
