If an employee is working over 6 hours in a shift, the state of California has made it mandatory that a 30 minute break must be taken. While that helps most workers, it does nothing but hurt anyone that is in the service industry, especially those serving tables. Servers who are forced to take a break, have to give up tables, and leave tables that they are serving, which in turn, causes the server to lose a significant amount of income. The mandatory break also causes an extreme amount of stress for any server because it forces to the server to try and figure out the best time to take a break, knowing that if they don't they will be punished. This causes much anxiety and also distracts the server from successfully offering their guest the best dining experience possible.
