this petition ask this administration to downgrade marijuana from a schedule 1 to a schedule 2 drug. by doing so untold numbers of people now incarcerated for marijuana related crimes could be released from jails and prisons thereby saving the tax payers 100's of millions of dollars each year. the federal, state and local governments could also decrease their funding allocated for catching, trying, and incarcerating marijuana offenders by billions of dollars per year. in addition, the government could more closely regulate its use. not to mention reap the benefits of taxing it. with marijuana legal for medicinal purposes and regulated cartels would lose over 40%, by many reports, of reven7ue each year.
