Make May the 4th a national holiday.

Created by J.A. on June 28, 2015

It is the desire of these American signatories that May the 4th be made a federal holiday, to be known as "Star Wars Day."

Most Americans find themselves working on May the 4th, which makes it difficult to take the required time to have a Star Wars marathon. With Episodes I to VI amounting to just over thirteen hours, time for movie marathons will become even more strained with the release of Episode VII in December 2015.

While we recognize that there are some Americans who do not share our love of Star Wars (Trekkies, mostly), this day could also be made out to be Hollywood Media day, to celebrate the richness of American cultural heritage as expressed via film.

In light of our nation's recent social progress, we deserve to celebrate. Give us a federally recognized Star Wars day.
