I believe that the department of labor needs a new approach to how it deals with certain regulation, and regulatory reform. I've worked in the private sector as a construction worker, served in the military, been a safety professional in the mining industry, oil field, and I'm now an OSHA inspector. I have seen first hand where OSHA and MSHA regulations hurt business too much, and don't actually protect, educate, and help employers figure out how to find cost effective efficient means of meeting the "safety + production" mindset over the "safety vs production" mindset. I've seen first hand ways that we could make employers happy to see OSHA show up, rather than freak out and pray that they can keep their doors open.
