Currently, if someone wants mental health therapy and have Medicare, they can only see a licensed clinical social workers (LCSW). Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC) come from master's programs that focus 100% on mental health counseling, diagnosing mental health disorders, & treating them clinically, and are no different from LCSW's. I have found many employers who actually prefer to hire an LPC from a clinical standpoint due to an LPC's more focused education, but can't because a large majority of their clientele have Medicare. Furthermore, Medicare is now the ONLY government insurance that does NOT reimburse LPC's. The overwhelming majority of non-government insurance companies also cover LPC's.
It's time that Medicare go the way of Tricare and others and employ LPC's!
