The idea to make Megan's law and Walsh act registrations private is not a new concept. This petition will not mean that offenders do not have to register, however it will mean that people will need to file a form to check their neighborhood for offenders. The name and address of each offender will not be able to be broadcast on any media or online without state or federal approval.
These individuals need to be better protected to ensure that they can continue to receive proper treatment and rehabilitation. Making the information public makes it possible for people to attack offenders at will. This petition will also mean that police may no longer notify neighborhoods about sex offenders. Sex offender mug shots will also need removed from websites.
