The Super Bowl is a great American tradition. It is the last game and championship of the NFL season. But it is more than that, as evidenced by its pricey commercials and influx of commerce it brings to the host city every year.
Super Bowl 46 was the most watched program in history, with an estimated audience of over 166 million viewers. The game did not end until around 10 o'clock at night on the east coast. This is late for many kids watching, yet they had to go to school the next morning while their parents had to go to work.
The day after the Super Bowl, an estimated 1 in 10 workers missed work, and another 4.4 million were late for work. It’s estimated companies lost $3.16 per employee per 10 minutes on Super Bowl related activities. Making this day a holiday would help offset this.
