A national election holiday is needed to encourage voting and to celebrate our representative democratic form of government. Too many people have difficulty getting to the polls and deserve this flexibility to participate in the voting process at all. Also, many citizens are not aware that voting is a vital civic responsibility, and the holiday would celebrate the significance of voting in a Democracy. This is not unlike how the 4th of July holiday celebrates our hard-fought American independence from Great Britain. Although we cannot make every election a holiday, we can for national elections. A national election holiday sends an important message to the citizens of this great Democracy.
