Registered voter turnout has been bad in recent years, especially for mid-term elections. We, the undersigned, petition the White House to push for national election day to be a National Holiday, closing all federal and state agencies and encouraging the private sector to do so as well. To maintain this National Voting Holiday a minimum of 75% of registered voters from the previous national election would have to have voted.
In general many Americans are becoming complacent and/or dissuaded about their most basic of rights, to vote. This right was obtained by the sacrifice of millions of veterans, many giving their lives for the freedom to vote. This change would encourage Americans to go to the polls and celebrate that freedom to express opinions and institute change through our vote.
