Energy independence is a major national goal that is with us for good. While all approaches to energy provision must be pursued, especially renewable ones, we must recognize that nuclear power is a proven technology that can serve as a bedrock of our energy independence initiative. But our nuclear power plants are decades old, and a political problem on waste disposal hampers the furtherance of this otherwise solid approach. We urge the administration to take nuclear power - along with the expansion of solar, wind, and of course oil and natural gas use - as a basis for our future energy security and independence.
