Too many people are going to jail for something the Administration currently recognizes as a 'disease'. Criminalizing addiction absolutely strains an addicts ability to seek help. Harsh laws are not the answer. Education, support, and rehabilitation clinics would benefit many. Being able to seek treatment without the threat of jail will make a huge difference to the successful rehabilitation of the addicted.
Marijuana trafficking under current prohibition only puts money straight into the cartels hands. If we restrict their income we will increase ours. But the focus on incoming drugs takes focus from the real situation. People are dying from opiates and other 'legal' drugs more than ever. It's time to quit wasting money chasing pot heads and use our money to help those truly in need.
