Having animals fight for entertainment purposes is abuse. Animals used in fighting are innocent victims of human activities and can not help themselves. According to the American Human Association, 70% of animal abusers also had records for other crimes. While dog fighting is a felony in all 50 states, being a spectator is a misdemeanor in many states. Cock fighting is legal in US territories. Raising the penalty for all those who support animal fighting will contribute to animal welfare and help to reduce the number of animal abuse cases.
