The number 1 issue that needs to be addressed is the assault rifle. Those are not the arms that our Founding Fathers envisioned when they passed the 2nd Amendment. Those weapons are not just as “arms” but are weapons of mass destruction. Does the 2nd Amendment give one the right to own a nuclear bomb? I am not advocating that every firearm be outlawed, only the ones capable of mass destruction. So even if the politicians actually do something bold and decisive like outlaw them, what about the ones that are already out there? The proverbial Genie is out of the bottle. I believe the only answer is for them to be declared illegal to own period. Retroactively. The Federal government should buy them back and impose serious fines and or jail time for owning one. $25k and 6 mo in jail.
