Make paid maternity leave a federal law.

Created by N.O. on April 23, 2015

The United States is the only developed country which does not offer federal paid maternity leave, the only states that do are; California, New Jersey and Rhode Island. This is ridiculous considering women make up nearly 51% of the country’s population. In fact under the Family Medical Leave Act, employers with more than 50 employees must allow 12 weeks for parents to care of the newborns. This only guarantees that you could keep your job if you leave for a maximum 12 weeks and is unpaid. The US is also one of the two only countries that doesn’t offer any cash benefits to women during maternity leave, according to the International Labor Organization.
