Can you imagine being completely independent in all aspects of your life except for your money? This is the reality for people who are blind or visually impaired. Paper money feels the same regardless of the denomination which forces those with visual impairments to rely on others to count their money for them. This process can be time consuming, it can take away from a person's autonomy, and it forces a person to be at the mercy of someone else's honesty.
Recently Australia unveiled a new $5 banknote that includes tactile markings (raised bumps) that allow people with visual impairments a way to independently identify it.
This is a petition to change our paper currency to include a tactile way to discern one denomination from another. Currency should be accessible to all.
